The tipi is a typical nomadic dwelling. In the tipi, the men sat on the north side of the tent and the women on the south side. The tipi was the domain of the women. While the men were hunting, they provided a fire on which to cook and warm themselves. The fire in the tipi was also used in the special ceremonies where they worshipped the four elements (earth, fire, water & air). During those ceremonies, sprinkling water was thrown on the glowing hot stones in the fire. For feasts and ceremonies, tipis were placed in circles, within which the feast or ceremony took place.
